The Ramblers exists to facilitate, for the benefit of everyone, the enjoyment and discovery that walking outdoors can bring; and to promote respect for the life of the countryside. The association encourages walking, protects rights of way, defends the beauty of the countryside and has campaigned for many years for the freedom to roam over uncultivated, open country.
The West Wiltshire Group is one of five groups forming the Swindon and Wiltshire Area. Our borders are loosely based on the old West Wiltshire District Council area, comprising the five towns of Bradford on Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury and numerous villages all around them. The blue line on the map to the right shows the old District Council boundary. However many of our members live in the numerous towns and villages just outside the area, especially over the Somerset border in Frome and it’s surrounding villages.
All of our Committee members, walk leaders and work party members are unpaid volunteers who give up their time to facilitate our activities.
