The #MakeSomeoneWelcome Campaign was introduced over 2 years ago by Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living. Its aim is to get as many groups in Wiltshire to welcome older and disabled people into their group. Wiltshire Ramblers’ Groups have signed up to this and joined over other 80 groups that are already part of this campaign.
Walk leaders and contacts need to be aware that there may be enquiries from potential walkers who have heard of us through the #MakesomeoneWelcome Campaign.
Some of you may be interested in two other walking groups in the area: Salisbury Walking for Health who run short walks in and around the city and Wessex Walkers who provide weekly bus walks. We all share a common purpose and it’s good to know that members of South Wilts Ramblers who may, at some point, want to do less strenuous walks can join Salisbury WfH and the Wessex bus walks. Both organisations provide trained walk leaders and are very well organised. Two of our walk leaders also lead for WfH. We welcome new members from both groups and we look forward to working more closely with them in the future. There’s clearly a demand for shorter, more leisurely walks.
The process of registering for walks which has been emailed to members several weeks ago, is now being trialled here in the Wilts and Swindon Area. The trial goes on till the end of October. All questions about the why and wherefore are answered on the Ramblers website and specifically in FAQs relating to walks registration, and below you will find an explanatory letter to Volunteers which I have been asked to forward. This is purely voluntary and if you do not want to give out any personal information when you walk there is no need to.
Please take your membership card and could all those members with a smart phone download the App?
Scanning can be done by anyone on the walk and can be shared to save time by those with the app. If no one has a smart phone, not a problem.
